How to play
The idea
You coach one of 19 AFL clubs. Every coach starts the season with the same pool of points. Each round you nominate how many to spend — and that nomination is your club's strength for that match.
What a nomination does
Nominate N and exactly N leaves your pool. Your strength that quarter is a random draw between 0 and N. A big nomination raises your ceiling; it does not guarantee a big score.
Spending more wins more matches, but the pool has to last the whole season and the finals. That tension is the game.
Your round
- Set the slider to the points you want to spend.
- Press Play. You cannot change it afterwards.
- When everyone has nominated, press Play the round.
Season and finals
24 rounds, 19 clubs, and every club plays 22 games and has two byes — the two split rounds sit seven clubs out at once. At the end, the top ten clubs on the ladder contest the Final 10, a five-week finals series. Nominations are capped at 5 during finals, and your leftover pool is what you have to spend.
Getting others in
Create a season and you get a game code — a number, 4 to 7 digits long. Ring your mate and read it out. They log in, type it into Join a season, and they're in.
Clubs are dealt at random when the host starts the season, so there's nothing to pick beforehand.
Coach one of 19 clubs through a full season. You get a pool of points, and each round you decide how many to spend. Spend well and you make the finals — spend it all and you are out.

Applies to new competitions and to a reset; a season under way keeps its settings. The absent-coach clocks apply straight away.
Background gallery — the pictures members can choose from. Paid members can also use their own.
The standard photo is 2000 × 1472 pixels (a bit wider than tall), so pictures that shape need no cropping. Anything works: each is shrunk to at most 1920 pixels wide and saved as a JPG. Choose several at once - the file name becomes the picture's name.
All club history — where each club finished on the ladder, season by season
One column for each of the latest finished seasons on the server, headed by its season number (hover for the competition). A number is the club's finishing position on the ladder; blank means the club was not in that competition. The most recent season is on the right.
Blue = where the club finished the home-and-away season · gold = where it finished after the finals (only clubs that played finals; the premier is 1, the runner-up 2). A club out of the finals just has its first number. Dotted underline = the club played that season under a different name (a rename) - hover for the name it wore.
Engine — back up the game, or restart it if something looks wrong
A backup is a complete copy of every game, account and record, made while the game runs. A restart makes a backup first, then the game stops for a few seconds and starts again. Nothing that has been played is lost - every pick is saved as it is made - and everybody's screen reconnects by itself. Use it if something looks stuck.

Live now — who is playing right now, and what they are saying
Every competition that is going (or was active in the last 20 minutes) with its season number, its host and its coaches. A green dot means that coach's screen has asked for the game in the last 90 seconds. Read chat shows the room's public chat (private messages stay private); you can delete a line or mute a coach from here, whoever the host is.
Chat settings — the bad-language filter, for every competition, from the next message on
The words, separated by spaces, commas or new lines. Whole words only, capitals do not matter, stretched letters (fuuuck) and look-alike symbols (sh1t) are caught. A word typed with spaces or dots between its letters gets past any filter, so the mute and delete here are still the backstop.
Bonus buttons and margin points
A bonus button adds extra GOALS, never more than the cap in a quarter. In per-game mode (the default) a coach picks ONE button for a match, before the first quarter, and it pays out across the match from the table below; the players see four coloured, named buttons (Spark, Boost, Surge, Turbo) and never these numbers. In per-quarter mode the button is pressed with a quarter's number and adds that many goals to that quarter only. Winning or losing a match by a lot changes the pool, once the match is finished. Changes are kept with Save settings (top right). Clear a tier's margin to remove that tier.
Celebration — the confetti and balloons when a coach wins the flag, and the cup beside them.
Any picture you like - a photo, a logo, a head on a cup. Choose a PNG, JPG or WebP file; it is shrunk to fit 400 × 400 pixels (PNG keeps see-through backgrounds) and must be under 700 KB after that. Shown in the points box when the season is won.
Club colours: two or three each, with the share of each in percent (the arrows move it in 5s). Change one and the others adjust so the club always adds up to 100. Tick 3rd colour only for a three-colour club.
Match timings — when every goal and behind landed on the game clock. Only the two most recent rounds keep their times.
Points — the season pool, size by size — points a game × (the games a club plays + the most finals games it can play), rounded down. Change a number and the pool changes with it. A smaller competition plays the rounds its host picks, so each round length is shown.

Computer strength streaks
A computer club's strength moves up a point for a win and down a point for a loss, between the floor and the ceiling set under Points & strengths. Stay on the ceiling long enough and its next loss does not drop it; stay on the floor long enough and its next win does not lift it. Earning one restarts the count. 0 rounds switches that half off.
Scoring
Read from the middle out: 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 at strength 9 is
2 3 4 5 6 6 5 4 3 2 — the straight hill. The last number covers both ends.
Absent coaches
Mascots — the fight at the end of a season: the winner's mascot flattens the runner-up's, then celebrates with the premiership cup
Each club shows its own mascot picture. Change a mascot's name or how it moves, press Test on its row to see it win, and Save mascots to keep your changes (they apply to every screen). The little emoji box only appears for a mascot that has no picture. fly swoops in from above, run/hop/spin/swing come in along the ground.
The drawn animation — the AI clips over the stadium photo: walk-in, squash, celebration, then the winner hopping on the flattened loser
Everything above can be changed while it is playing — speed, fit and opacity take effect immediately, and Hop repeats restarts the count. Nothing here is saved: it is for looking at. A matchup with no clips yet says so and plays nothing, so an unfinished league is safe to ship.
Test finals — watch a final four, five or eight in minutes
One click builds a one-round season with nobody coaching, starts it and takes you to it. At the end of each round it stops and you press the button to carry on, through the finals to the premier. A test season leaves no history.
